We'd like to welcome you to Daylily Manor - via the web - to see how things are "growing" here in Southern Mississippi.
The date of this "tour" is May, 2003 and it is just a real quick look at the gardens and some blooms. Things are kind of hectic here to say the least! Remember our new addition from the April tour - the puppy "Goldie"? Well, this winter when Huey was "potty training", he took her out early one frosty morning hit the wheelchair ramp in the back and fell and fractured his shoulder. Turns out he did more damage than that so he has had surgery and can't work in the gardens right now. Even worse (since I'm not the one in pain) was...we couldn't make our planned trip to visit the Floridia hybridizers. So...this old girl is working the gardens alone and the weeds seem to be winning at this point!.
The blooms are absolutely fantastic this season but we are losing lots of blooms to scape blast...must have been the excessive rains early this year. Cool nights also seem to have retarded bloom season by a bit - which might mean that we actually have some blooms for the shows this year! We are usually "bloomed out" by the time they are held end of May first of June. If you are down this way, the South Central Mississippi Daylily Society will hold their show on May 31 at Sawmill Square Mall in Laurel MS. The Hattiesburg Area Daylily Society will hold their show on June 7th at the Turtle Creek Mall. Come by and see the blooms...they are always fantastic!
With over 400 "new" pictures already taken this year...we have picked out a few to add to our tour below while we work on updating the web pages. These were all taken in our gardens this year. This are fairly large pictures so it may take awhile to load.
So "come on in" and if you see any weeds while you tour... free free to pull them...PLEASE!!!.... |
