DIP (Diploid) or TET (Tetraploid) designates the number of chromosomes. Diploids have 11 pair of chromosomes and tetraploids have 22 pair. When hybridizing only cross diploids with diploids and tets with tets. No seeds will develop crossing dips and tets. Some growers make it easy to indentify tetraploids by placing an asterisk following the cultivar name. |

Here's the "really technical info" on how to plant daylilies...dig a hole, make a mound of dirt in the bottom, spread the roots over the mound, final planting depth should be no more than one inch above the crown (where the foliage and roots meet), fill in with dirt making sure there are no air pockets, water and watch them grow! And that's about as "technical" as it gets! (Oh and a little fertilizer will help also!) |

To achieve good growth and flowering, plant daylilies where they receive full sunlight for at least half of the day. To lessen the "bleaching out" of darker bloom varieties from the hot sun, many darker varieties benefit if they receive sun during the earlier part of the day and are shaded in the afternoon. |
